Ok, if you haven't heard of Die Antwoord, the insanely INSANE zef rap-rave group from South Africa...then you should! I promise...whether you want to or not, you will likely become addicted to them. They're waaaaay out there and kind of like a train wreck...you can't look away!!! Give them a listen...I dare you! *DARE*

I heard of them back in January and I always wanted to do a painting of the lone female singer in the group, Yo-Landi Vi$$er. She has such a crazy cool look, I knew it would be fun painting her....and here she is:

Well, I think I will take this time to post a bunch of my latest pieces for anyone who hasn't seen my new website. 6 of the following images are from the "Art Affair and Cartoon Premiere" show that we had at La Petite Mort in the beginning of September. Check THIS blog post out for a wee write up. It was an amazing show...the place was PACKED...take a look:

Well, I just finished with a huge rush of work for a gallery show at La Petite Mort. I'm just waiting on some pictures of the show and then I will do a blog post about it. In the meantime, my website has been updated by my lovely husband, so please go and check it out HERE. There is a new store setup on the site with some new artwork from the show. I will be adding more items to the shop over the next week as well. LOTS to do!

Here's another quick practice painting that I did recently. I just started laying colours down and this is what I came up with after a couple of hours. It's nice to just paint with no real direction sometimes and see what comes out of it as a result. :)

Boy! Am I glad that it's Friday. It's been a long week, both my 3 year old daughter and I have been sick all week. Boooooo-frigin'urns to that! I need a kick in the ass! I practically gave up on my poor old blog. I swear the last 15 entries must start with me apologizing for not updating. I'm sure the apologies are wearing thin for anyone who actually reads my blog...so no more apologies. I MUST POST INSTEAD! Hehhe!

So, I've been doing a lot of photoshop painting lately, trying to sharpen my skills. I'll be posting some newer stuff here on my blog.

Here is one I did about a month ago. It's done mostly on one layer and I did it in about an hour and 45 minutes. I used photo reference. I also recorded myself painting this one so I will post the video as well. I sped the video up so don't worry...you won't have to sit through an hour and a half of me painting! ;)

Without further ado....here is the final painting as well as the speed painting video. Enjoy!!

So, I was doodling a bit at work today and this is what I came up with. It's loosely based on an old glamour shot of Mary Pickford. I LOVE the photos of the old Hollywood starlets...so much more beautiful than the unrealistically stickly actresses of the now.

....although it may seem like I am! Hahah! I'm here, I'm alive, and like usual, I've been busy. I am currently working on my largest piece yet....3x4 feet!! It's an acrylic painting based on the rough in my post below, Butterflies. I WAS supposed to paint that one in oil, but because of the size of the piece, I decided to stick with the acrylic for the time being. I will hopefully be finishing that painting up very soon, so, keep checking back for updates.

Until then, here is a quick concept sketch I came up with for my next piece. I can't wait to work on this one....I think I will stick with the larger format for this one too. So much fun!

Here's a new skateboard design that I just finished. I'm going to be adding it to a shop that I am opening over at Artsprojekt. I'll put all the details about the shop on my blog once it's officially open.

It was nice to work on some personal art since it seems like all I've been working on lately is commercial art. Feels good to really get to flex the creative muscle with a good ole' kick ass board design!! :)

Tonight, I sketched out a rough of my next painting that I am going to work on. I will be pulling out the old oils for this one, even though the coward inside of me is ready to wimp out and lean on the familiar acrylics! I'm going to make the leap though...and this little beauty will be my first muse....

Here is a commission piece that I just finished for a friend at work. It's a digital painting of 2 friends of his that are getting married, this is his wedding gift to the couple. :)

On a side note...I am going to finally stop being a pussy and get all my oil paints out this week to work on a new painting. Everyone that paints with oils swear by them, so I think it's about time I give it a whirl again...considering I was like 8 years old the last time I tried them. Wish me luck! :)

Well, I got the chance to meet an amazing Ottawa artist yesterday , Dave Cooper, through a friend. We were invited to check out his studio and we got to see some of his works in progress for upcoming shows. Let me just say....holy....freakin'.....amazing! His work is just sooo insanely detailed and just such a joy to take in. The amount of detail that you get to see in his work in person far outweighs any detail ever captured in any photo I've ever seen of his work. No duh, obviously you will see more detail in a piece standing right in front of it then you would in any magazine...but the overwhelming amount of extra detail that you see in his pieces in person, is such an awesome surprise. If you haven't had a chance to check out his work yet....please do...it's definitely worth it!

Yes, I am lame and I have not been very dedicated to my blog as of late. I've been busy being creative though, so hopefully that will count for something! ;)
